Finding the Beat Creates Happy Feet
Young folk are becoming more interested in dance, and The Dance Place is taking "steps" to meet that interest.
Viorel Balan, formerly head dancer for one of Russia's biggest dance companies, is organizing classes for young dancers at The Dance Place. Viorel is originally from Kishinau, Moldova, and moved to the USA some years ago. In addition to his ballet and folk dance skills, Viorel has become a Latin competitor and has also added ballroom dancing to his repertoire.
We are happy to announce that Viorel is excited about setting up classes for youngsters because he feels strongly that getting into dance by the age of 8 or 9 is important for acquiring good fundamental dance skills. The age range for these classes will be 8 through 14, although Viorel will gladly set up additional classes for other age groups if needed.
Our current plan is to offer the initial class at 7pm on Friday as this is opposite an existing adult class so the "chauffeurs" can also participate in dance if they desire. However: We will be happy to consider other times for these classes if they are more convenient, and we will also consider holding 2-hr classes, perhaps from 5-7pm on Friday, at some point on Saturday, or perhaps even on Sunday.
Let us hear from you so we can get this program underway. If you have children, nieces or nephews, grandchildren, or know neighbors who have youngsters and you'd like them to experience the joys of dance, tell them about this program.
Our goal is to hold the first 1-hr. class on Friday, August 4, at 7pm. Tuition is $12 per 1-hr class or $40 if paying in full for a 4-week series of 1-hr classes on registration night. Tuition is $22 per each 2-hr class or $72 if paying in full for a 4-week series of 2-hr classes on registration night.
