New Ballroom Classes at The Dance Place

"What class do I join after learning the basics?" is a question we here a lot at The Dance Place. And, until now, we've had to tell folk that we didn't have a "next level" class for them to join after taking our First Steps or Ballroom Basics classes.

But that has changed, and we can now tell folk to join our Level 2 Ballroom Class at 8pm on Wednesday evenings.

In the Level 2 Ballroom class, we'll cover Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Rumba, Cha-cha and Swing, but at a more advanced level than was taught in the First Steps and Ballroom Basics classes. You'll learn more complicated turn combinations in the Swing, Rumba and Cha-cha. While you learned the Single Corte in Tango during the First Steps class, you'll now do a Double Corte. We'll develop a Foxtrot Simple Left Turn into a Cross Body Lead. In Waltz, you'll learn moves like the Outside Basic, perhaps a Twinkle or some other more advanced movement.

These classes will start in the first Wednesday in March and will cover either 1 or 2 dances in each 4-week period. For more details, call 713-266-0066 or email us at info@theplace2dance.com.

Advanced American Style Ballroom

This is an exciting new class that will be held at 9pm every Wednesday beginning on March 5th. The class will cover the usual dances like Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Rumba, Cha-cha and Swing and, in addition, will also cover Bolero and Viennese Waltz.

Some of the material will be advanced Bronze level, but most of it will be from the Silver level. In Waltz and Foxtrot, you'll learn the Continuity Styling in which you travel around the room and hardly ever close your feet. You'll learn advanced timings and some nifty turns in Cha-cha Rumba and Swing along with new figures to use them in. Lunges, Checks and Oversways will adorn your Tango after you've attended these classes.

Because the 9pm class is advanced, please check with instructor Phillip Stephens before joining this class. While all are welcome, you should be proficient with the lower levels of dance before joining an advanced class. A rule of thumb is that, if you have trouble with leading or following the basics, you shouldn't attempt the more advanced classes until you've solved those issues. The same is true if you have trouble with timing, or if you find your feet on or in the way of your partner's veet very often. In those cases, you probably need to spend a bit more time on the basics. But don't just assume you should not take this class - check it out with Phillip.
