Benefit Dance, Auction & Show for Ronnie Leverett
Mr. Ronnie Leverett, one of the most accomplished Ballroom dancers in the genre, was recently diagnosed with cancer. He will undergo expensive treatments and will be unable to work for quite some time during the course of this illness.
We hope to help Ronnie get some much-needed financial assistance from the dance community. Therefore, a fundraising event will be held for Ronnie at The Dance Place at 7:30pm on Saturday, September 22, 2007. There will be a fabulous show put on by some of the best dancers in the area and the evening will also feature a silent auction, super refreshments and general dancing. All contributions of time and money will be appreciated. A minimum donation of $30 is requested, even from show performers.
During the 1970s, Ronnie and partner Alice (DuBose) Harrison were many times undefeated US Champions in American, International and Theatrical styles of dance. They won a huge number of titles in all three styles of dance during their dance career. This is an unparalleled feat as most people concentrate on only 1 or 2 styles of dance at any one time. Ronnie and Alice were a delightful couple to watch on the dance floor, though their career was abruptly ended due to an auto crash that severely injured Alice. Ronnie has maintained his form and charm, but “retired” from dancing even with students until the past couple of years, when he has again delighted audiences with stunning performances that embody suspense, drama, fluidity, musicality and choreography that keep the audience on the edge of their seats. We want to see Ronnie out on the dance floor again, and hope that you will all pitch in to make this possible.
